Are they good on plasterboard for hanging a TV? Hanging shelves?
About to move into a new build and looking for the best option for all the stuff needed hung!

If you want super heavy weight, look at GeeFix plasterboard fixings. They give you around a 12cm wing on the back, which is probably the biggest you can get.

For a TV though, if you can't get into the joists, Snap Toggles are a good option.

If you're into dot/dab, then a normal plug can be used if you're into the dot dab. If you're fixing into a shallow section where the dab isn't, you can use a CoreFix to go into the stone behind. Or if you want to use a fixing on the plasterboard with shallow depth behind it you could use a T-Bolt or BullFix which work with shallow depths.

I'd stay away from GripIt fixings. You have to drill a relatively large hole and the wings on the back are small. Which means they're not very strong as they don't spread the weight very well. (edited)

I draw the line where a rawl plug advertises itself as being intelligent

The intelligent bit is supposed to be that the plug behaves differently depending on the material / situation. In masonry they behave like a traditional plug, but in a cavity they deform and behave like a hollow wall plug.

Use these constantly in all sizes. Never let me down. In softer brickwork add a bit of grip fill and swear you could mount a small island off them

I used to use regular rawl plugs and loads of stuff fell out of the wall. We live in an old house and getting stuff to stay put is tough. Since I started using Fischer DuoPower not a single fixing has come loose. These things are the business. Genuinely one of the best products I have ever encountered in any field. They are SO good. Buy em, even if you don't need them, because at some point you will!

Anyone else thought it was kinder duplo at first glance?

These plugs are the best - so much better than traditional rawl plugs / copies.

They work decently in cavities, plasterboard, block, brick... no more keeping different plugs for different materials.

Comparison here - skip to 16 minutes for the results versus other fixings:

As stated these plugs are excellent. Well worth the extra money if you care about heavy things staying on your wall

Will they be any good in a concrete ceiling, to hold a ceiling rack?
    me_lee's avatar
They should be suitable, they are rated for concrete - typically take the max amount each plug can hold, divide by 3 (to get a 'safe' figure) and multiply by the number of fixing points to get the max weight. If it's not enough for your use case you need to either go bigger or have more fixing points.

The video I posted above will give you some idea of the loads.

However, it's worth noting that in the scenario you describe, 'traditional' red wall plugs are likely to perform pretty much the same. (edited)
