You'll be forever descaling glass kettle. They don't last long looking nice. I'd never buy one again after having one for a year some time ago (edited)

Before putting it away, I'd suggest boiling it up and putting some citric acid in it (or you could use acetic) to get rid of the taint of oil and new plastic, so it is ready to use when your current kettle packs up, and using it a few times to make sure it works reliably and doesn't leak. Nothing more annoying than thinking you have a spare only to find it doesn't work when you need it and it is also too late to take it back.

I usually keep a spare, although usually an old kettle if it is still just about usable.
